TACLOBAN CITY, April 22 -– The Search for the Ginoong at Binibining Palaro will be the opening salvo of the Palarong Pambansa 2009 which the Provincial Government of Leyte under Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla is hosting.
The pre-pageant night or the talent competition is scheduled on April 25 (7:00 p.m.) at Leyte National High School (LNHS) Gymnatorium.
The pageant and coronation night will be held at the same venue on April 26 (Sunday) at 7:00 p.m.
According to the competition guidelines issued by the Department of Education each region is entitled to one male candidate for the Ginoong Palaro 2009 and one female candidate for the Binibining Palaro 2009. There are 17 participating regions.
The contest categories are sports wear competition, regional costume competition, talent showdown, question and answer and sports participation portfolio.
In the sports participation portfolio, the candidates are required to submit in advance their achievements in sports (photos, plaques, medals, ribbons, citations or any form of documentation) for the last three years.
On the other hand, the criteria for judging are over-all physique (30 percent), talent (20 percent), intelligence and communication skills (20 percent) and sports participation portfolio (30 percent).
The major awards are Ginoong at Binibining Palaro 2009, 1st Runners-Up to 4th-Runners-Up (male and female).
The special awards to be given are Best in Sports Attire, Best in Regional Costume, Best in Talent, Most Eloquent, Mr. and Ms. Congeniality and Top Sports Achievers.
As agreed during the coordinative meeting with the Physical Education School Sports (PESS) Supervisors held last March 28 here, the Top Sports Achiever Awards shall be given to the contestants who garner the highest number of points for the Sports Portfolio.
It is emphasized in the guidelines that in the sports wear competition, the candidates shall wear only his or her Palarong Pambansa official uniform like jacket, t-shirt, shorts/jogging pants, cap and sports rubber shoes.
The candidate may also use sports equipment or playing implement during the presentation as props, if necessary.
The guidelines also emphasized that in the regional costume competition, the use of special effects, grandiose displays, live animals and deadly weapons are prohibited to ensure that the presentation will not put the candidate and the other candidates in serious danger.
According also to the guidelines, the talent presentation should last only for a maximum of five minutes including the entrance and the exit.
It must be done in good taste and the concept, costume and other paraphernalia must not be suggestive and lewd in any manner.
The use of back up performers is not permitted and the use of special effects is prohibited in the same manner that stunts and other dangerous acrobatic moves are discouraged.
But, this may be performed at own risk, provided, that safe precautionary measures are observed.
Entrance to the venue of the Search for Mr. and Miss Palaro will be free of charge.
But, to adhere to the seating capacity of the gymnasium, each delegation shall be be given 100 admission tickets only. (PNA)
